EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. (Emdria.org)
I provide EMDR therapy as part of my individual counseling services. Although EMDR is highly effective, it is not for everyone and is not a required part of treatment. I am happy to discuss any interest in this modality with any prospective client, and to apply it when it feels appropriate. I believe that this question is best answered individually. While EMDR can be applicable for most clients, it is also not everyone’s preferred method of therapy. We can discuss this further in our initial sessions.

No, EMDR is not the same as hypnosis or hypnotherapy. EMDR does not require clients to enter a trance state.

EMDR’s initial, and primary, application is for the treatment of trauma. However, you do not have to have experienced major trauma to engage in EMDR. EMDR has broad applications and can be used to treat anxiety, OCD, chronic pain, and many other disorders and symptoms.
